About the Authors

Dr. Clark

Dr. Kim ClarkDr. Clark began his career as a high school biology and health teacher during the 1970's in Southern California and also in Michigan. After completing his Masters of Public Health (MPH) degree in 1979, he served on the faculty of the Loma Linda University School of Public Health. In 1989 Dr. Clark became the coordinator of a statewide HIV/AIDS education project sponsored by the California Department of Education with funding from the Centers for Disease Control.

In the early 1990's Dr. Clark and Christine Ridley began their work on the Positive Prevention HIV/AIDS curriculum, and subsequently the Positive Prevention PLUS Sexual Health curriculum. Since receiving his doctoral degree in public health from UC Berkeley, he has also served for sixteen years as a professor in the Department of Health Sciences at California State University San Bernardino. Most recently, Dr. Clark was named recipient of a five year Tier II cooperative agreement from the federal Office of Adolescent Health to study the impact of the the Positive Prevention curriculum on diverse low-to-moderate income students in Southern California.

Christine Ridley

Christine RidelyAfter teaching for 8, years Christine returned to college for her R.N. License, her School Nurse Credential, and a Master's Degree in Education Administration. She has worked as an elementary and middle school teacher, a school nurse, a Coordinator of School Health Services at the San Bernardino County Superintendent of School office in California throughout her busy career. She is presently semi-retired but continues her teaching of school nurse credential classes at California State University Fullerton and working on the curriculum. Her interest in HIV/STD prevention education began while working as a school nurse in 1990.

Christine is also the lead author of the document Putting It All Together, Program Guidelines and Resources for State Mandated HIV/AIDS Prevention Education in California Middle and High Schools published by the California Department of Education. She continues her work on the curriculum with her co-author, Dr. Kim Clark and enjoys interacting with teachers and school nurses as she travels to trainings and presentations.
